Between January and May 2019, ‘Yoga & Creativity‘, ‘Yin Yang Flow‘ and ‘Rest & Digest’ all run on a monthly basis at The Yoga Kitchen.
Yoga & Creativity
Working with Yoga and Art therapeutically.
The Yoga & Creativity workshop incorporates mindfulness meditation, gentle restorative yoga, art-making, dreamwork and elements of Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening® framework. It is suitable for curious and creatives types, experienced yogis / meditators & complete beginners. No previous experience in any of the elements is necessary. Art-making materials are provided, and participants are free to take their artwork home with them at the end of the workshop. The format and emphasis of the workshop will change from month to month.
These workshops will combine yoga tailored to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra) and therapeutic art-making practices.
Suitable for everyone – No prior experience in any of the elements of this workshop is necessary.
Yin Yang Flow
Our Yang portion consists of a slow hatha flow where poses are held to develop strength, mindfulness, and stability. Our practice focuses on hamstrings, quadriceps and core engagement to prepare for back-bends and inversions.
Yin yoga can be considered both preventative and restorative. The meditative practice of stillness enhances the yin aspects (quality) of chi. A complimentary practice to yang yoga, it helps prevent joint rigidity and immobility, while simultaneously nourishing the meridians.
This workshop will leave you enlivened, revitalised and deeply rested in body and mind!
Not suitable for beginners.
Rest & Digest
Rest & Digest is a 2-hour restful and restorative workshop which blends Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra.
The Hatha yoga element includes yoga poses specifically selected to stimulate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The PNS is also known as our “rest and digest” system.
The Yin element will bring the mind and body closer to a state of total relaxation. Yin yoga poses are passive floor poses that work mainly on the lower part of the body. The poses stimulate the meridians of the body, balancing the body’s internal organs and systems.
We finish with Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep. Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, in which the body is completely relaxed.
This workshop is open to everyone and no prior yoga experience is required.
Yin Yoga to the sweet sounds of soul music – even better than it sounds!
This class will ease you into a surrender of long delicious, at times supported, postures that help relieve the effects of chronic stress. The entire class is offered with the bonus of soul music to move you through the weekend with a soulful ease.
The combination of Yin yoga (inward-looking, meditative practice) with soul music (universal yearning of the heart for deep connection) creates the unexpected and euphoric effect of a deep and regenerative re-connection to the heart and soul.
There is you and you.
This is a relationship.
This is the most important relationship.
“Home” by Nayyirah Waheed.
